After managing to avoid it for 2 years, I discovered I haven't got super immunity after all and along with about 4 miliion others caught Covid last week. I should have known something was up, as a day or two before I started feeling ill, I just wasn't hungry and not particulary interested in food. Given that at least 50% of my waking hours are usually consumed with thoughts about a. losing weight. b what my next meal is going to be c. what the meal after that is going to be it really wasn't a normal state of affairs. By the time I tested positive I really had completely lost my appetite and a little more than a few teaspoonfuls of Chubby's delicious Gelato and some soup for a good few days. Here's the (really annoying) thing though, I didn't lose any weight. You can see in the image that my step count went down to virtually zero for a couple of days and even when I was feeling a bit better, I still wasn't moving anything like a normal day. In recent years, I'd reached a conclusion that that pretty much, weight loss was down to what happens in the kitchen and exercise, whilst vitally important was more for fitness, toning and general mental wellbeing and the real fat blasting stuff was down to portion/carb/alcohol control. I'd forgotten of course, the very basic premise of calories in, calories out and indeed the 4 words that are core to the ELF strategy and the shortest diet plan ever: 'Eat Less Do More'! Clearly exercise plays a really important part in keeping the weight off and also (vital for us e-l-fs) helping to balance everything out in the unlikely case of over indulgence. Whilst I wasn't eating much, I also wasn't moving at all and the basic maths of energy use (calories in calories out) wasn't adding up to less tight jeans. So now the line on the test has gone, I've made a pact with myself to move at every opportunity possible - even just walking (which I'd previously scoffed at for calorie burning) has benefits, not least because it's free!
